Screening For Plagiarism
The Journal of Information System and Artificial Intelligence (JISAI) publishes only original work. All submitted manuscripts are checked for similarity using Turnitin. Plagiarism in any form is unethical publishing behaviour and is not accepted.
1. Forms of Plagiarism
- Copying text, data, figures, tables, or ideas from another source without proper citation
- Self-plagiarism (text recycling): reusing substantial parts of the authors' own published work without citation
- Duplicate or redundant publication: submitting work that has already been published, or is under review elsewhere
- Translation plagiarism: translating another work (for example from Indonesian to English) and presenting it as original
- Paraphrasing another source, manually or with AI or paraphrasing tools, without citation
2. When Manuscripts Are Checked
- At submission: before the manuscript is sent for peer review
- After revision: when the revised manuscript is returned by the authors
- Before publication: a final check on the accepted version
3. Similarity Limits
- The overall similarity index must not exceed 15%.
- Similarity with any single source must not exceed 3%.
- The check excludes the reference list, and may exclude properly quoted and cited material and very small matches.
The similarity index is a guide, not the only basis for a decision. The editor reviews the Turnitin report to judge whether the overlap is acceptable, for example standard terms or method descriptions, or whether it amounts to plagiarism.
4. Actions
| Result | Action |
|---|---|
| Overall ≤ 15% and no single source > 3% | The manuscript proceeds to peer review or publication. |
| Overall 16–25%, or a single source > 3% | The manuscript is returned to the authors with the similarity report for revision before it can proceed. |
| Overall > 25%, or clear evidence of copied content | The manuscript is rejected. |
| Plagiarism found after publication | The case is handled under the Handling Allegations of Misconduct procedure and may lead to a correction or retraction under the Retraction & Correction Policies. |
In serious or repeated cases, the journal may inform the authors' institution and may refuse further submissions from the authors involved.
5. Author Responsibilities
Authors are encouraged to check their manuscripts for similarity before submission. By submitting, authors confirm that the manuscript is original, has not been published before, and is not under consideration by another journal.
